My number one goal is to raise the floor of understanding when it comes to training and communicating with your dog. The biggest issue I have found with owners is a lack of understanding of the way a dog thinks and learns about the world. I want to improve that across the board, and make sure that if you work with me, you leave not only with an incredible dog, but with full confidence in your own ability to maintain that obedience and even train your future companions.
Dog training can be complicated, but the overarching theories involved are simple. Dogs, like all other animals, even humans, learn best when a balanced approach is taken. You must teach them what is good, and what is bad. If you only teach one or the other, you are directly neglecting half of your ability to communicate with your dog.
By teaching a dog both what to do and what not to do, they learn to walk through life confidently. They know that, at the end of the day, no matter how stressful a situation is, no matter how confused or scared they might be, as long as they follow you and your instruction, everything will turn out fine. That confidence is the foundation of a happy, well-adjusted dog.
Positive reinforcement builds drive, eagerness, and a genuine love of training. We use food, toys, and praise to build a strong foundation of engagement. Your dog should want to work with you, not just tolerate it.
Fair, clear corrections give your dog the full picture. When they understand boundaries alongside rewards, confusion disappears. And with it, the stress and anxiety that comes from not knowing what is expected of them.
My methodology is built on a balanced approach, meaning clear communication is at the core of everything I do. I teach your dog exactly which behaviors are good and should be repeated, and just as importantly, which behaviors are bad and should be avoided. By providing this clarity, we remove the guesswork that causes your dog's anxiety. Instead of relying on inappropriate behaviors to forge their way through the world, they will have the confidence to look to you for guidance in any stressful situation.
We assess your dog's temperament, triggers, and baseline behavior. We discuss your goals, your lifestyle, and the outcomes you are looking for. From there, we build a custom training plan designed specifically for you and your dog. No cookie-cutter approaches, no one-size-fits-all solutions.
Think of this stage like shaping clay. Your dog does not know what we need from them yet, so we build a rock-solid obedience foundation while teaching you how to communicate with them clearly. This is the most important phase. We establish engagement, drive, and a willingness to work that makes every stage after this dramatically easier.
Now we put that clay in the fire. People, other dogs, busy places, stressful environments. We pressure test your dog's obedience in the real world until it is hardened and we know it will not crack. This is the stage where most trainers stop, and it is the stage where the real magic happens. Obedience that only works at home is not real obedience.
A well-made pot still needs care. Because we have taught you how to communicate and given you the right tools, you have the ability to keep your dog's obedience in top shape long after we are done. No tune-ups required. That is the goal: an owner who is fully capable of maintaining and even building upon the training on their own.
Now that you understand how we train, here is what we train. Sure, we teach the fun stuff too, but roll-over and shake are not what make your dog a joy to take everywhere with you. Functional obedience is. These are the four commands you will use 99% of the time, and they are what allow your dog to thrive in a world built for humans.

The foundation of impulse control. Your dog learns to hold position regardless of what is happening around them. This single command eliminates jumping, door bolting, and a dozen other daily frustrations.

Structured walking where your dog respects your pace and direction. No more pulling, no more shoulder strain, no more avoiding other dogs on the sidewalk. Walks become enjoyable again.

A reliable come command that works the first time, every time, even around high distractions. This is the command that keeps your dog safe and gives you the confidence to grant them real off-leash freedom.

Your dog goes to a designated spot and stays until released. The ultimate management tool for guests at the door, dinner time, working from home, or any situation where you need your dog to be calm and out of the way.
Mastering those four pillars inside your home or backyard is easy. The real magic happens when we take that foundation out into the real world. By enforcing these commands under varying levels of distraction, your dog learns that your guidance is more important than the environment around them. This structure allows them to put their full trust in you, and become a more confident, relaxed dog overall.
Here are some examples of real-world exercises we use to test your dog's obedience:

Your dog returns to you reliably whether you are at the dog park or in an open field with dozens of distractions.

Maintaining composure in busy environments like farmers markets, outdoor cafes, and breweries.

Walking at your side through groups of people and other dogs without breaking focus or pulling.

Holding a down-stay anywhere, anytime, for as long as you ask, regardless of how far you go.

Staying calm and focused next to traffic, cyclists, and other high-stimulation environments.
